Fueling Creativity

Some of the most important meals are the ones that do more than feed a body. They open a door.

Fueling Creativity is a program born from a simple but powerful belief — that every young person deserves access to nourishing food, meaningful education, and a space where their creativity is celebrated. Through a partnership between the Westport Farmers Market, the Norwalk Art Space, and the Art Space Café, we are making that belief a reality every single week for underprivileged students in the Norwalk community.

It begins at the farmers market.

Each month, the Westport Farmers Market purchases and provides fresh, locally sourced ingredients directly from our farmers — the same growers who show up at our market every week with the best that Connecticut's soil has to offer. Those ingredients travel from the farm to the hands of Chef Caitlin McGowan and Café Baker and Manager Kelly Clement at the Norwalk Art Space Café, where they are transformed into healthy, delicious meals designed to nourish young minds and fuel the work of the day ahead.

For students ages 9 to 18, the experience goes far beyond lunch. They gather in an environment built around learning, expression, and wellness — sharing a meal prepared with real, whole ingredients while onsite tutors provide academic support and art classes bring their creativity to life. Food and education, side by side. Nourishment for the body and the imagination, together.

This is also a window into the world of culinary arts — a chance for young people to see what it looks like when food is grown with intention, prepared with care, and shared with joy. Many of these students have never had that connection before. For some, it plants a seed that grows far beyond the classroom.

Fueling Creativity runs year-round, aligned with the Norwalk Art Space's class schedule so that no student ever has to choose between a good meal and a good education. Week after week, season after season, the Westport Farmers Market is proud to be the foundation of that promise — from the soil to the table to the minds and hearts of the next generation.

Because when you fuel creativity, there is no telling how far it can grow.
