Raus Coffee Blanket Drive

Hello WFMers,

Hope you had a merry holiday season. 9 years ago, friends and I were giving out blankets. When we came across the first homeless man, sleeping against the side of a convenience store, we told him he was the lucky winner and had first pick of all the blankets. Picking out his blanket, a single tear ran down the right side of his face. He proceeded to tell us how he had lost his blanket and prayed to receive a new one. This is just proof that something so small as a donated blanket can literally answer someone’s prayers.

Every year around this time, I collect blankets and other toiletry items that friends and I hand deliver to homeless persons living on the streets in NYC. Year after year, I see first hand how a simple act, such as the giving a blanket, socks, or friendly conversation, can have such a profound impact on their lives. Haven’t we all experienced this at some point, where an act of kindness may have changed our entire life trajectory or outlook? I know I have.

I’m writing today to invite you to once again take part in the story and be a shining light in someone’s life. Next week, January 6th, 2018, I will collecting the following items to be distributed the homeless in NYC: blankets, warm socks, feminine hygiene products, toothpaste and toothbrush,

**Please don’t bring any comforters, jackets, or clothing, other than what’s listed above. They make it difficult to hand out and are difficult to match up to the individual receiving it.**

To be apart of this force for good, simply pick one or more of the following items and drop it off to me at next week’s farmer’s market (Jan 6th). For those of you who want to make a nominal donation, we will also have a jar on our table. The proceeds will go towards purchasing bagged meals to for the people we serve. That’s about it…. Who knew making a difference could be so simple?

Thank you all again for your continued support and for your patronage to the Westport Farmer’’s Market.

Happy Holidays and God bless!
